Larger Bathrooms
The biggest trend in bathroom remodeling is expanding the size of the bathroom. Bathrooms in new homes and bathroom remodels have tripled in size over the last decade. The additional space allows for larger showers, separate showers and tubs, and bathroom furniture.
Privatizing the toilet has also gained popularity. This can include adding a privacy wall or creating a completely separate room for the toilet, providing privacy and allowing use of the rest of the bathroom at the same time.

Separate Showers and Bath Tubs
Showers are becoming much more sophisticated. Some feature multiple jets from all four sides and the ceiling as well as temperature controls. Clear glass is also becoming popular with showers because it makes the bathroom feel bigger. More bathrooms are going away from sliding shower doors to hinged doors and heavier glass. Glass tile shower enclosures are also popular, as is solid granite shower walls. In some cases, the entire bathroom is tiled and the shower enclosure is removed, making the bathroom itself become the shower, with the shower head and drain installed at one end or in a corner of the bathroom.
Separating the tub from the shower also provides flexibility in choosing a tub. Popular tubs are jetted tubs, large soaking tubs, and freestanding tubs.

Dual Vanities and Sinks
With the increased bathroom size, dual vanities, each with separate storage, is a popular bathroom remodeling trend. This allows couples to each have their own space in the bathroom. Other popular trends are above-counter basins, faucets that come directly out of the wall, and granite and marble vanity tops.

Additional storage
Additional storage, but also smarter storage, is being added as part of many bathroom remodels. Rather than big deep drawers, the trend is to add small, shallow drawers with built-in dividers for storage of small items. Another popular addition is pre-manufactured cabinets with electrical outlets built in so that items like electric razors, electric toothbrushes, and hair appliances can be used and stored without have to be unplugged each time.

Luxury Features
As the bathroom becomes a place to pamper and de-stress, more and more luxury items are being incorporated as part of bathroom remodeling projects. To make time soaking in the tub more enjoyable, some are adding things like flat-screen TVs, sound systems, and even small refrigerators to the bathroom. Armoires and chaise lounges are also being seen more often. Other popular luxury additions include heated floors, heated towel racks, and steam baths.

Aging-in-Place Feature
With a larger portion of the population approaching retirement, more people are incorporating aging-in-place features into their bathroom remodeling plans. This includes features such as grab bars, built-in shower seats, walk-in tubs, adjustable-height sinks, and non-slip flooring. These features are incorporated tastefully into the bathroom décor so that they look stylish rather than like they were taken from a nursing home.
